Yaks are indigenous species in the massif of Himalayas- Karakorum and Tibetan plateau and have been integral part of their socioeconomic systems from centuries.
Yaks are cold loving bovid and prefer to live and graze in open upland pastures and generally migrate from pastures to pastures by their seasonal migratory routes.

Unfortunately, the life of this dynamic species has been threatened during the last couple of decades due to climate change and global warming.
If serious steps are not been taken at global level for the sustainability of this autochthonous species of Himalayas and Karakorum, we may lose Yaks sooner or later in future like that of mammoth.
This Yak herd (in the winter pasture) photographs have been released significantly for the promotion of Yak in the region of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
Special Thanks to Mr. Iqbal Tonpa for such strenuous and arduous trip (Low oxygen in the air) in the snow bound winter pasture, and his accompany made this trip memorable.
